BENEFITS OF MISWAK:

Miswak – The World’s Oldest Toothbrush

One of the first “noted” forms of dental hygiene is the “Miswak”, which is still used by people in North Africa, Southeast and Central Asia, and the Middle East. What exactly is this so-well-hidden secret known as the miswak?

Miswak is a natural toothbrush that comes from a tree called the “Salvadora persica”, or “Arak” or “Peelu”. For decades, researchers have looked at the miswak’s natural antibiotic properties, which are found in the tree’s branches and roots. Many studies have concluded that, when it’s used right, it can have a positive effect on a person’s oral hygiene. The tree’s leaves and berries were also found to have natural remedies in them.

With so many good things coming from this tree, it’s not surprising that the World Health Organization, in 2008, endorsed Miswak.

How to Use a Miswak

1. Leave in Water:

Take the Miswak out of its packaging and leave it in water for 3-4 hours (one time only – This process helps soften the Miswak for use)

2. Peel:

Peel about a quarter of an inch of the outer bark of the Miswak to reveal the inner bristles.

3. Chew:

Using your molar teeth gently chew on the exposed part of the Miswak for about 30 seconds or until it is soft, frayed and forms bristles.

4. Brush:

Hold the Miswak perpendicular to your mouth, brushing in an up and down motion. Allow the Miswak between the gaps of your teeth for flossing.

5. Cut & Repeat:

Cut off the tip every other day for a fresh set of bristles and repeat the process
